Carbon particles are applied across the face, penetrate into open pores, and bond with surface impurities. The laser then vaporises the carbon layer in a rapid series of pulses, simultaneously removing the debris, exfoliating dead skin cells, and delivering thermal stimulation to underlying collagen. The treatment begins with cleansing the skin and applying a thin, even layer of carbon suspension — sometimes called a 'carbon milk' — across the face. The carbon particles are small enough to penetrate partially into pores and adhere to surface oils, sebum plugs, and dead cell debris. The second pass uses higher energy settings. The nanosecond pulses cause rapid photoacoustic vaporisation of the carbon particles, which carry the adhered impurities with them as they combust. This mechanical micro-exfoliation is more precise and less traumatic than chemical or manual exfoliation, and the photoacoustic shockwave briefly increases cell permeability, potentially enhancing absorption of subsequent topical products.
