Whole-body magnetic-resonance imaging is a non-invasive scan that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves — not X-rays — to generate detailed cross-sectional pictures of the body's internal structures. In a single coordinated session it surveys the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis and the musculoskeletal soft tissues, producing images that allow a radiologist to look for structural changes across many regions at once.
