A bone-turnover blood panel measuring ß-CrossLaps (a marker of bone breakdown) and osteocalcin (a marker of bone formation). Together they show how actively bone is being remodelled — information that complements a DXA bone-density scan rather than replacing it. Relevant for post-menopausal women, low body weight, vitamin-D deficiency or long-term steroid use. Drawn at the ISO 15189-accredited Brno-Starý Lískovec laboratory, results usually within 24 hours.

Osteoporóza (Osteoporosis) is a self-pay blood panel that assesses bone metabolism through two complementary bone-turnover markers. ß-CrossLaps (C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen, CTX) is released when bone is broken down, so it reflects the rate of bone resorption. Osteocalcin is produced by bone-building cells and reflects the rate of bone formation. Reading them together shows whether bone is being remodelled in balance or whether breakdown is outpacing formation — a dynamic picture that a single bone-density measurement cannot capture. Importantly, these blood markers complement rather than replace imaging: a DXA (bone densitometry) scan measures how much bone is present, while this panel measures how quickly it is changing. The combination is most useful in people at higher risk of osteoporosis — post-menopausal women, those with low body weight, a family history of fragility fractures, vitamin-D deficiency, or long-term glucocorticoid (steroid) use — who want to understand bone turnover or monitor the response to treatment over time. The sample is a standard venous blood draw of around fifteen minutes, taken on a walk-in basis between 07:00 and 11:00, Monday to Friday, at the second-floor collection room of the Poliklinika U Pošty in Brno-Starý Lískovec. Confirm any fasting requirement when booking, as bone-turnover markers can show diurnal variation and are usually best taken in the morning. All sampling material is provided free of charge. Results are typically released within 24 hours, collected in person against signature and ID or via secure electronic delivery arranged at the collection room. Because turnover markers fluctuate, they are most informative when tracked over time or read alongside a DXA result and vitamin-D status. Any concerning result is best reviewed with a physician, who can decide whether imaging or treatment is warranted. All analysis is performed under ČSN EN ISO 15189 accreditation.
