An eight-marker liver panel that assesses both liver-cell health and bile flow. It measures total and direct bilirubin, the enzymes ALT, AST, GGT and ALP, amylase and total protein — the standard set used to detect liver-cell damage or impaired bile drainage. Useful if you have symptoms such as jaundice, dark urine or pale stool, or take long-term medication. Drawn at the ISO 15189-accredited Brno-Starý Lískovec laboratory, results usually within 24 hours.
Funkce jater (Liver Function) is a self-pay panel that evaluates how well the liver and biliary system are working using eight complementary markers. The enzymes alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are released when liver cells are damaged; gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) rise particularly when bile flow is obstructed; total and direct bilirubin reflect how the liver is processing and clearing the breakdown product of red blood cells; amylase adds context about the pancreas and digestive enzymes; and total protein reflects the liver's synthetic capacity. Read together, these distinguish a hepatocellular (liver-cell) pattern from a cholestatic (bile-flow) one. The panel is well suited to people with symptoms that can point to liver or biliary problems — jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), unusually dark urine, pale stool — or to those taking long-term medication or hormonal contraceptives that are metabolised by the liver, who want periodic reassurance. The sample is a standard venous blood draw of around fifteen minutes, taken on a walk-in basis between 07:00 and 11:00, Monday to Friday, at the second-floor collection room of the Poliklinika U Pošty in Brno-Starý Lískovec. Specific fasting requirements depend on the collection conditions confirmed at booking; following the lab's general guidance of a morning, fasting draw is the safe default. All sampling material is provided free of charge. Results are typically released within 24 hours, collected in person against signature and ID or via secure electronic delivery arranged at the collection room. Because this panel is more detailed on the liver than the broader Basic Prevention package — which includes liver enzymes but not total protein in the same focused grouping — it is the better choice when the liver itself is the concern. Any abnormal enzyme or bilirubin pattern should be interpreted by a physician alongside symptoms, alcohol intake and medication history. Analysis is performed under ČSN EN ISO 15189 accreditation.
