Ateroskleróza (Atherosclerosis) is a self-pay package built to characterise the modifiable factors that drive atherosclerosis — the gradual narrowing and hardening of arteries that is a leading cause of myocardial infarction and stroke. It combines a full lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triacylglycerols) with fasting glucose, homocysteine and a trio of enzymes — creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Homocysteine in particular is an amino-acid marker associated with cardiovascular and thrombotic risk and with B-vitamin status, while the added glucose reading flags impaired carbohydrate metabolism that compounds vascular risk. This package suits people who want more than a basic cholesterol check — for example those with a family history of early heart disease, established risk factors, or simply a wish to understand their cardiovascular profile in more depth. Because several markers are sensitive to recent intake, the draw must be taken fasting (nalačno): no food and no sweetened or alcoholic drinks for 12 hours beforehand, and not after a night shift. Sampling is a standard venous draw of around fifteen minutes, taken on a walk-in basis between 07:00 and 11:00, Monday to Friday, at the second-floor collection room of the Poliklinika U Pošty in Brno-Starý Lískovec. All sampling material is supplied free of charge. Results are typically available within 24 hours, collected in person against signature and ID or via secure electronic delivery arranged at the collection room. Compared with the narrower Lipid Metabolism panel, this package adds the metabolic and enzymatic context that helps put a raised cholesterol into perspective, and compared with the ApoE genotyping it measures current biochemistry rather than inherited predisposition. Results are best read together with blood pressure, lifestyle and family history, and any clinically significant finding — especially raised homocysteine or LDL — should be reviewed with a physician. All analysis is performed under ČSN EN ISO 15189 accreditation.
