Upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) performed at La Peer Surgery Center by oculoplastic specialists Dr. Guy Massry and Dr. Raymond Douglas, as well as facial plastic surgeon Dr. Babak Azizzadeh. Removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids to reduce hooding, undereye bags, and puffiness. Outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. Initial swelling resolves in one to two weeks.
La Peer Surgery Center offers eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) performed by three affiliated surgeons with subspecialty training in periocular anatomy: Dr. Guy Massry, an oculoplastic surgeon with a focused practice in eyelid and periocular reconstruction and cosmetic eyelid surgery; Dr. Raymond Douglas, an oculoplastic and orbital surgeon with expertise in the structural relationships between the orbit, eyelid, and surrounding facial anatomy; and Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, who includes blepharoplasty within his comprehensive facial rejuvenation practice. Upper blepharoplasty addresses hooding of the upper eyelids caused by excess skin (dermatochalasis), herniated orbital fat, or brow ptosis — the procedure removes or redistributes skin, orbicularis oculi muscle, and fat to restore a defined upper eyelid crease and open the visual field. Lower blepharoplasty addresses undereye bags (herniated orbital fat), tear trough hollowing, and excess lower eyelid skin, and can be performed via a transconjunctival incision (hidden inside the lower lid, no visible scar) for pure fat repositioning or fat reduction, or via a subciliary incision just below the lash line for cases requiring skin removal. The two approaches can be combined — fat repositioning transconjunctivally with a pinch skin excision — to address both volume changes and skin excess in a single session. Dr. Massry's oculoplastic subspecialty training encompasses functional eyelid surgery (ptosis repair, ectropion and entropion correction) as well as cosmetic procedures, providing the capability to address both aesthetic goals and functional concerns in a single operative session. Dr. Douglas adds orbital and midface expertise useful when blepharoplasty is combined with midface lifting or orbital fat repositioning to blend the lid-cheek junction. La Peer's outpatient setting allows same-day discharge under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia, with recovery involving cold compresses for the first 48 hours, avoidance of strenuous activity for two to three weeks, and initial swelling resolving within one to two weeks. Final scar maturation completes at three to six months.
