Breast augmentation — the placement of silicone gel or saline implants to increase breast volume and projection — is performed via incisions in the inframammary fold, periareolar margin, or axilla depending on the surgeon's technique and patient anatomy. Implants may be placed in a subpectoral (under the chest muscle) or prepectoral (above the muscle) plane, with the choice depending on the patient's existing tissue coverage, activity level, and aesthetic goals. Modern implant choices include smooth and textured cohesive silicone gel devices across a range of profiles from moderate to ultra-high, allowing customization of the outcome to match the patient's frame and proportion goals. Breast lift (mastopexy) addresses ptosis — downward displacement of the nipple-areola complex and excess skin envelope — that commonly develops after pregnancy, weight loss, or over time. The procedure reshapes and elevates the glandular tissue, removes excess skin, and repositions the nipple to a natural height on the breast mound without changing volume; augmentation-mastopexy combines implant placement with a simultaneous lift when both increased volume and elevation are needed. Breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) removes excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin to relieve the physical burden — neck and shoulder pain, skin fold irritation, postural strain — that large breasts impose on the musculoskeletal system, and reshapes the breast to a more proportionate, aesthetically pleasing form. All three procedures are performed under general anesthesia at La Peer, with surgical times of ninety minutes to three hours depending on the procedure and complexity. Recovery involves a surgical bra for four to six weeks, restricted overhead activity for three to four weeks, and resolution of the majority of swelling and bruising within three to four weeks, with scar maturation completing at twelve months.
