Root canal treatment (endodontics) at Váš krásný úsměv removes infected or irreversibly inflamed pulp tissue from inside a tooth, cleans and shapes the root canal system, and seals it permanently to preserve the tooth. The clinic offers both standard and microscopic endodontics — the microscope provides 10–25× magnification for superior visualisation of canal anatomy, calcified canals, and unusual case morphology, improving treatment outcomes in complex cases.
Root canal treatment addresses infection or irreversible inflammation of the dental pulp — the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels inside the tooth root. Without treatment, a pulp infection spreads to the surrounding bone (periapical abscess), causes significant pain, and ultimately results in tooth loss. Root canal treatment relieves pain, eliminates infection, and saves the natural tooth. Váš krásný úsměv offers microscopic endodontics using a dental operating microscope (DOM), which provides 10–25× magnification and co-axial fibre-optic illumination. This level of visualisation allows the clinician to identify extra canals (common in upper molars and lower premolars), locate calcified canal orifices that cannot be seen with the naked eye, detect micro-fractures, and negotiate complex curved or narrow root canal anatomy with greater precision and safety. **The procedure:** 1. Local anaesthetic — the tooth and surrounding area is completely numbed before any instrumentation 2. Rubber dam isolation — a thin rubber sheet isolates the tooth from oral bacteria and prevents contamination of the sterile canal system 3. Access cavity preparation — opening through the crown to reach the pulp chamber 4. Canal identification and working length determination — electronic apex locator + digital X-ray confirms canal length 5. Mechanical and chemical debridement — rotary NiTi files and irrigant solutions (NaOCl, EDTA) clean and shape the canals 6. Canal obturation — canals sealed with gutta-percha and root canal sealer to prevent reinfection 7. Temporary or permanent coronal restoration — the tooth is rebuilt and typically protected with a crown **Post-treatment:** Mild soreness for 2–5 days after treatment is normal as periapical inflammation resolves. The tooth should be restored with a crown as soon as possible to prevent fracture of the now-pulpless, more brittle tooth structure.
