Chemical peeling is one of the most established and evidence-supported methods for improving skin texture, tone, and clarity. By applying fruit acids — most commonly glycolic acid — to the skin, the superficial or deeper layers of dead and damaged cells are loosened and shed, triggering a healing response in which fresh cells replace them. The result is skin that may appear smoother, brighter, more hydrated, and more even in tone, with softer fine lines and reduced acne activity over a course of treatments. **The Renophase system:** Laboratoires Renophase (France) developed a cross-linked carrier called Hydrogel Reticulé — a substance based on chitosan from marine crustacean shells with xanthan and pectin. This hydrogel increases the skin's permeability to the active ingredients, protects the acids from oxidation, and releases them gradually in the deeper layers of the skin. Direct sun exposure should be avoided for at least two days after each session, and daily SPF is recommended throughout the course. Chemical peels are not applied over active herpes, eczema, irritated or sunburnt skin, fresh wounds, or immediately after mechanical exfoliation.
