Strenuous exertion is avoided for at least four weeks, and sexual activity is resumed at six to eight weeks once healing is complete. Swelling is most noticeable in the first days and settles over the following weeks; full healing and softening of the result take place over the months that follow. The procedure is best scheduled outside menstruation to keep the early healing period clean.
