Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that cannot be saved or is causing problems, from a straightforward permanent tooth to a surgically removed impacted wisdom tooth. A tooth extraction may be needed when a tooth is too damaged by decay or fracture to restore, is severely loosened by gum disease, is impacted (stuck below the gum or bone, as wisdom teeth often are), or must be removed as part of an orthodontic or prosthetic plan. A simple extraction loosens and removes a fully erupted tooth, while a surgical extraction — common for impacted wisdom teeth — involves a small incision and sometimes removing a little bone to retrieve the tooth.
