Profhilo is a stabilised, highly concentrated hyaluronic acid that bio-remodels the skin — injected into a small number of points where it disperses through the tissue to draw in water and is associated with improved firmness, elasticity and radiance over the following weeks. Collagen-stimulating products such as Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid), Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) and Ellanse (polycaprolactone) act differently again, prompting a gradual, longer-lasting build-up of the skin's own collagen. Treatment is delivered by a physician and usually takes fifteen to thirty minutes. Because only a few injection points are used for products like Profhilo, downtime is minimal, with small raised bumps settling within hours; collagen stimulators may cause mild swelling or tenderness for a day or two. Protocols are typically a short course — for example two Profhilo sessions about four weeks apart, or two to three sessions for collagen stimulators — with results building over one to three months and maintenance every several months.
