Root-canal (endodontic) treatment is used to save a tooth when the soft pulp inside it — the nerve and blood supply — becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause pain and abscesses; root-canal therapy removes the diseased tissue, cleans and shapes the narrow canals, disinfects them and seals them so the tooth can stay in function. At KCM's Dental Clinic the treatment is carried out with microscope assistance, and on-site 3D cone-beam imaging is available to map complex or curved canals before and during treatment, improving the chance of locating every canal. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, often with the clinic's computer-controlled anaesthesia for comfort, and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the tooth and the degree of infection. Pricing follows tooth complexity — an incisor is 850 zł, a premolar 980 zł and a multi-rooted molar 1,350 zł — while re-treatment of a tooth that was root-filled before and has failed is more involved and priced higher. Because a root-treated tooth becomes more brittle, the dentist usually recommends restoring it with a crown afterwards, quoted separately, particularly for back teeth.
