Full-Ceramic Crown

A full-ceramic crown is a metal-free restoration that covers a damaged or discoloured tooth with a highly natural, translucent finish. Without a metal core it transmits light much like a real tooth and avoids any dark line at the gum, making it the preferred choice for front teeth and the smile line. It restores strength and shape while delivering the most aesthetic result.

A full-ceramic (all-ceramic) crown caps the whole visible part of a tooth using high-strength dental ceramic without any underlying metal. The absence of a metal core allows light to pass through the restoration in the way it does through natural enamel, giving superior translucency and colour matching and avoiding the grey shadow that can sometimes appear at the gum edge with metal-based crowns. This makes all-ceramic crowns the material of choice for front teeth and anywhere appearance is a priority, while modern ceramics are also strong enough for many other positions. The finished crown is then checked for fit, bite and appearance and cemented in place. Full-ceramic crowns are well suited to restoring discoloured, worn, chipped or root-treated front teeth, to improving the shape or alignment of individual teeth, and to harmonising a smile where high aesthetics are wanted. The same material can also be used for veneers when only the front surface of a tooth needs covering, and the dentist will advise whether a crown or a more conservative veneer is appropriate.
