A non-surgical face lift using absorbable polydioxanone (PDO) threads inserted beneath the skin to mechanically reposition sagging tissue and stimulate long-term collagen production along the thread tracks.
PDO thread lifting at K2 Medical offers a non-surgical alternative to traditional face lift surgery for patients experiencing mild to moderate facial sagging — particularly along the jawline, mid-face, and nasolabial fold area. Polydioxanone is a synthetic absorbable suture material with a long safety record in surgery; in aesthetic medicine, PDO threads are inserted subdermally using fine cannulas or needles to create an internal scaffolding that physically lifts and repositions ptotic (drooping) tissue. The threads come in several configurations suited to different clinical goals. Smooth mono threads create a mesh-like network that stimulates diffuse collagen production for skin quality improvement. Barbed or cog threads have directional hooks or cones that grip the subcutaneous tissue and provide immediate mechanical lift — these are the workhorses of the thread lift procedure, placed along vectors that counteract gravitational descent of the cheek fat pads and jowl tissue. Screw or tornado threads are twisted configurations used for volumising specific areas. The physician designs the thread placement pattern based on the patient's facial anatomy and the direction of tissue descent. After local anaesthesia, the threads are introduced through tiny entry points using cannulas, guided along pre-marked vectors, and anchored at fixation points in the temporal or zygomatic region. The mechanical lift is visible immediately on the treatment table. Over the following 6 to 8 months, the PDO threads are gradually absorbed by the body through hydrolysis. During this absorption process, the threads stimulate a foreign-body response that deposits new collagen along the entire thread track — this neocollagenesis is the secondary and longer-lasting benefit of the procedure, maintaining structural support even after the threads themselves have dissolved. Total treatment time is approximately 60 minutes. Results last 12 to 18 months, with some patients opting for repeat treatment to maintain the lift.
