Laser tattoo removal works by delivering very short, high-intensity pulses of light that are absorbed by the tattoo pigment. The energy shatters the ink into tiny fragments, which the body's immune system then carries away over the weeks following each session, so the tattoo looks progressively lighter. Because the ink sits at different depths and colours absorb light differently, removal is a staged process rather than a single treatment, with healing time left between sessions to let the skin recover and the body clear the broken-down pigment.
