Dermal filling with hyaluronic acid replaces volume that is gradually lost from the cheeks, temples, chin and jawline over time, and softens static folds that no longer respond to muscle relaxation alone. Because that loss of deep volume is part of what drives sagging and deepening creases, restoring it in the right places often does more for a refreshed appearance than treating individual lines. Numbing is used for comfort, and most modern fillers also contain lidocaine. The gel is placed with a fine needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area; results are visible straight away and continue to settle over one to two weeks as any initial swelling resolves. Mild swelling, tenderness or small bruises are normal for a few days. Hyaluronic-acid results are not permanent — they typically last several months to around a year and a half depending on the product and the area before the gel is naturally broken down — which means the look can be maintained or allowed to fade. A practical safety feature of hyaluronic acid is that it can be dissolved if an adjustment is ever wanted. Filling is suited to adults noticing flattening of the cheeks, a less defined jaw or chin, or deepening nasolabial folds; suitability and any contraindications are reviewed before treatment.
