Root Canal
Duration

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth, then cleans, shapes and fills the canals to save the tooth and relieve pain. At Dental Clinic Jankowscy endodontics is performed under a dental microscope for better visibility of the fine canal anatomy, with the price depending on how many canals the tooth has. A crown or core rebuild is usually advised afterwards to protect the treated tooth, quoted separately.
Root canal (endodontic) treatment is needed when the soft pulp inside a tooth — its nerves and blood vessels — becomes inflamed or infected, often through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this can cause severe pain and abscesses, so the aim of treatment is to remove the diseased pulp, disinfect the canal system and seal it, allowing the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. At Dental Clinic Jankowscy this work is carried out under a dental operating microscope, which magnifies and illuminates the inside of the tooth so the clinician can locate and clean the often narrow and curved canals more thoroughly. The tooth is anaesthetised and isolated, the canals are shaped and irrigated, and they are then filled and sealed; the price rises with the number of canals, from single-canal front teeth to four-canal molars. The clinic also handles more complex situations such as retrieving a fractured instrument or removing an existing post, which are quoted individually. Because a root-treated tooth can become brittle, a core build-up and usually a crown are recommended afterwards to protect it, and these are costed separately. Endodontic treatment suits adults and older children with a salvageable but irreversibly damaged or infected tooth; the dentist confirms with X-rays whether the tooth can be saved and explains the steps, success expectations and follow-up.
