Hip MRI (3T)

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

25 min

3 Tesla MRI of a single hip joint evaluating the labrum, articular cartilage, femoral head, and surrounding soft tissues on the MAGNETOM Spectra.

The hip MRI at IZD MRI uses the MAGNETOM Spectra 3T to produce detailed images of the hip joint, including the acetabular labrum, articular cartilage surfaces, femoral head vascularity, surrounding tendons (gluteal, iliopsoas), and bursae. The 3T field strength is particularly valuable for hip imaging, where labral tears and early cartilage delamination can be subtle on 1.5T. Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) assessment benefits significantly from 3T resolution — both cam and pincer morphology can be characterised, with associated labral and cartilage damage mapped for surgical planning. The examination also evaluates avascular necrosis of the femoral head (earlier detection at 3T), stress fractures, and greater trochanteric pain syndrome. At EUR 170, this is competitive for high-field hip imaging. Contrast-enhanced hip MRI adds EUR 50 and is useful for post-surgical labral assessment and when MR arthrography precision is needed without the intra-articular injection.
