Contrast-enhanced 3T brain MRI using gadolinium-based agents (Gadovist or ProHance) for tumour characterisation, infection workup, and inflammatory conditions requiring enhanced tissue differentiation.
The contrast-enhanced brain MRI at IZD MRI combines the standard 3T multi-sequence protocol with intravenous gadolinium administration. Post-contrast T1-weighted sequences with fat saturation are added to the native protocol, providing enhanced lesion conspicuity and characterisation. The 3T platform's inherent signal advantage compounds with gadolinium enhancement — subtle enhancing lesions that might be equivocal at 1.5T become clearly visible at 3T. This is clinically significant for detecting small brain metastases, characterising primary brain tumours (grading, extent of enhancement), evaluating meningeal disease, and assessing active inflammatory/demyelinating lesions in multiple sclerosis. At EUR 300 (base EUR 250 + EUR 50 contrast), this remains well below typical 3T contrast brain MRI pricing in Western Europe. The centre uses Gadovist (gadobutrol), ProHance (gadoteridol), or Primovist (gadoxetic acid) depending on clinical indication. Patients with impaired renal function are screened with eGFR before contrast administration as standard protocol.
