IV High C
Type
IV Vitamin Therapy
Duration
45 min
A high-dose intravenous vitamin C infusion delivering concentrations far beyond what oral supplementation can achieve. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant essential for immune cell function, collagen synthesis, and protection against oxidative stress. At high IV doses, plasma levels can reach 50 to 100 times those achievable orally.
The High C IV delivers vitamin C intravenously at doses that produce plasma concentrations unattainable through oral intake. Oral vitamin C absorption plateaus at approximately 200mg due to saturation of sodium-dependent vitamin C transporters (SVCTs) in the gut. Beyond that threshold, bioavailability drops sharply and excess is excreted renally. IV delivery bypasses this bottleneck entirely. At high plasma concentrations, vitamin C acts as a pro-oxidant selectively within immune cells, enhancing the oxidative burst that neutrophils and macrophages use to neutralise pathogens. It also supports lymphocyte proliferation, antibody production, and the integrity of epithelial barriers — the body's first line of defence. Beyond immune function, vitamin C is the rate-limiting co-factor in collagen synthesis (relevant for skin, joints, and wound healing) and a potent scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that contribute to cellular ageing and tissue damage. The infusion takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes. It is popular during cold and flu season, before and after travel, during periods of high physical or emotional stress, and as part of proactive immune maintenance protocols. Administered by a registered nurse with post-infusion monitoring.
