An intramuscular injection of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a compound found in every cell that plays a key role in mitochondrial energy production and antioxidant defence. CoQ10 levels naturally decline with age and can be depleted by statin medications.
About this treatment
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble compound present in the mitochondria of every cell, where it plays an essential role in the electron transport chain — the final stage of cellular energy (ATP) production. It also functions as a lipid-soluble antioxidant, protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage.
CoQ10 is synthesised by the body, but production declines with age. Additionally, statin medications (used to manage cholesterol) inhibit the mevalonate pathway, which produces both cholesterol and CoQ10, leading to reduced CoQ10 levels as a side effect. Symptoms of CoQ10 depletion can include muscle weakness, fatigue, and reduced exercise tolerance.
Oral CoQ10 supplements have limited bioavailability due to the molecule's large size and fat-soluble nature. IM delivery provides a more reliable absorption pathway, ensuring the active compound reaches the bloodstream.
