Rhinoplasty — surgical nose reshaping — is one of the most technically demanding procedures in plastic surgery, requiring intimate knowledge of both nasal anatomy and facial proportions. At ISCARE Klinické centrum, rhinoplasty is performed by MUDr. Alexander Vatľak, who tailors each procedure to the patient's facial structure, ethnic background, functional needs, and stated aesthetic preferences. During the complimentary pre-operative consultation, morphological imaging or standardised photography may be used to model and discuss realistic postoperative outcomes. The surgeon discusses the open versus closed approach: the closed (endonasal) technique leaves no external scars and is suitable for less complex modifications; the open (external) technique involves a small incision across the columella (the strip of tissue between the nostrils) and provides greater surgical access for more extensive reshaping, tip definition, or revision cases. Common rhinoplasty requests include reducing a dorsal hump, refining a bulbous or drooping nasal tip, narrowing wide nostrils, or correcting asymmetry following previous trauma or surgery. Functional rhinoplasty that also addresses a deviated septum or turbinate hypertrophy (which causes nasal obstruction) may be combined with the cosmetic procedure in a single session. Procedure time is approximately 1.5–2.5 hours under general anaesthesia. A nasal splint is worn externally for 7–10 days. Nasal packing (if used) is removed 24–48 hours post-operatively. Significant bruising and swelling resolve over 3–4 weeks; the refined tip and bridge contour are visible within 6–8 weeks. Complete swelling resolution, particularly at the nasal tip, takes 12–18 months. Patients are advised to avoid contact sports and any activity that risks nasal impact for at least 6 months.
