Otoplasty at ISCARE Praha 9 corrects prominent or protruding ears by reshaping the ear cartilage and pinning the ears closer to the head — addressing both aesthetic and psychological concerns that can affect children from school age onwards. Performed by MUDr. Alexander Vatľak at 19,500 Kč (both ears), the procedure uses internal sutures to reshape the antihelical fold and reduce the conchal bowl, with incisions concealed behind the ear.
About this treatment
Otoplasty (ear pinning surgery) at ISCARE Klinické centrum corrects prominent, protruding, or asymmetric ears by surgically reshaping the ear cartilage. The procedure is one of the few aesthetic surgeries recommended for children — most surgeons agree the procedure can be performed once the ears have reached near-adult size, typically from age 6 onwards, making ISCARE accessible to both paediatric and adult patients.
The surgery is performed by MUDr. Alexander Vatľak following a consultation in which ear anatomy, degree of protrusion, symmetry, and the patient's (or parent's) aesthetic goals are discussed. Two structural factors most commonly cause ear prominence: an underdeveloped antihelical fold (the inner cartilage ridge that normally curves the upper ear), and/or an overly deep conchal bowl (the cup of the ear). Both factors may coexist.
The surgical approach involves a small incision hidden behind the ear, through which the cartilage is accessed. For antihelical fold correction, cartilage-sparing sutures (Mustardé technique) fold and secure the cartilage into its natural position. For conchal reduction, excess cartilage is excised or scored. Both techniques are frequently combined. Operating time is approximately 1–1.5 hours under general or local anaesthesia depending on age and patient…
