Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) at ISCARE Klinické centrum is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin in order to achieve a breast size that is proportionate to the patient's frame. The primary goals are functional relief — reducing chronic neck, shoulder, and back pain caused by heavy breasts — as well as improved body image and ease of physical activity. The procedure is performed by MUDr. Alexander Vatľak in ISCARE's surgical suite at Praha 9. It begins with a detailed pre-operative assessment covering medical history, a physical examination, and imaging if required. The surgeon discusses realistic outcomes, expected final size, incision placement, and scarring during the complimentary consultation. During surgery, conducted under general anaesthesia, excess glandular tissue and skin are excised and the remaining tissue is reshaped. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a natural, more youthful height. The most common approach is the inverted-T or vertical-scar technique, chosen based on the amount of reduction required. Operating time is approximately 2–3 hours. Patients spend one day in hospital post-operatively. A surgical bra is worn for 4–6 weeks to support the healing tissue. Swelling and bruising typically resolve within 4–6 weeks; final scars fade progressively over 12–18 months. Return to office work is generally possible after 10–14 days; heavy lifting and vigorous exercise are restricted for 6 weeks. Results are long-lasting — breast volume remains reduced unless significant weight gain or pregnancy occurs. Most patients report marked improvement in posture, physical comfort, and clothing fit. The procedure is suitable for adult women whose breast size causes persistent physical discomfort and who are not planning pregnancy in the near future.
