Cryolipolysis — LipoCryo Fat Freezing

Cryolipolysis with the LipoCryo system at ILK works by exploiting a fundamental biological difference between adipocytes (fat cells) and the overlying skin and muscle: fat cells crystallise and undergo irreversible apoptosis at temperatures that the skin can tolerate without damage. The LipoCryo applicator draws the targeted tissue fold between two cooling panels using gentle vacuum, ensuring full contact across the treatment zone. It then holds the tissue at a precisely controlled sub-zero temperature for the duration of the session — typically 60 minutes. During this time, adipocytes in the subcutaneous layer reach the crystallisation threshold; the crystal formation punctures the lipid membrane and triggers apoptotic signalling pathways that cause the cell to package its contents for phagocytic removal. Over the following 2–4 weeks, macrophages clear the dead adipocytes through the lymphatic drainage system. Because only the fat cells — not skin, nerves, or underlying muscle — reach the critical temperature during the session, no tissue damage outside the fat layer is produced and no recovery time is required.
