Otoplasty permanently corrects protruding or asymmetric ears by reshaping the ear cartilage through an incision hidden behind the ear. Prim. MUDr. Inka Třešková performs the procedure under local anaesthesia as a same-day outpatient operation at FN Plzeň — no hospital stay needed.

About this treatment

Protruding ears are usually caused by an underdeveloped antihelical fold or an overly deep conchal bowl — anatomical features that otoplasty corrects permanently by reshaping and suturing the cartilage into a natural position closer to the head. The incision is placed in the crease behind the ear, so the resulting scar is essentially invisible.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and takes around 60–90 minutes for both ears; adult and adolescent patients walk in and out the same day with a protective head bandage. The bandage is worn continuously for the first days, then an elastic headband (similar to a sports band) protects the ears at night for several weeks while the cartilage heals in its new shape.

Discomfort is generally mild and managed with standard pain relief. Most patients return to work or school within a week; contact sports are avoided for about six weeks. Because the cartilage is permanently reshaped, the result is lifelong. The free consultation covers the desired degree of correction, symmetry planning, and aftercare.
