A zirconia crown is a tooth-coloured cap that covers a heavily filled, cracked or root-treated natural tooth to rebuild its shape and protect it. A crown is an indirect restoration that completely covers a natural tooth, restoring its strength, shape and appearance when too much tooth structure has been lost to decay, fracture or large old fillings, or after root canal treatment. InDent produces zirconia crowns using a digital workflow: the prepared tooth is scanned, the crown is designed on screen and then milled from a solid block of zirconia, a high-strength ceramic. Zirconia is associated with both good mechanical durability for chewing forces and a tooth-like translucency, making it a versatile choice across the mouth. Treatment usually involves preparing the tooth, taking a digital scan and fitting the finished crown at a later visit, with a temporary restoration in between where needed. Because the design is digital, the fit at the margins can be controlled precisely, which is associated with easier cleaning and better long-term gum health around the crown.
