Root Canal Treatment (Endodontics)

Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose inner pulp has become infected or inflamed by cleaning out the canals, disinfecting them and sealing them, relieving pain and avoiding extraction. Root canal treatment, or endodontics, becomes necessary when the soft tissue inside a tooth — the pulp, containing its nerve and blood supply — is irreversibly inflamed or infected, usually through deep decay, a crack or trauma. Left untreated this causes pain and can lead to an abscess and loss of the tooth. The treatment removes the diseased pulp, cleans and shapes the fine canals inside the roots, disinfects them and fills them with a sealing material, allowing the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. At I-Dent the fee reflects the complexity of the tooth: from 800 zł for a single canal, 1,000 zł for two canals and 1,400 zł for three canals, since back teeth have more canals and take longer to treat. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic so it is comfortable, and on-site imaging helps the dentist map the canals accurately. Where a tooth has been root-treated before but the problem has returned, the clinic offers retreatment — reopening, re-cleaning and re-sealing the canals — priced from 900 zł to 1,500 zł depending on the number of canals. Because a root-treated tooth loses its internal blood supply and can become more brittle, the dentist often advises rebuilding it with a post-and-core (700 zł) and protecting it with a crown so it can withstand normal chewing forces; a preparatory build-up to enable treatment is 150 zł. Modern root canal treatment has a high success rate, and a well-restored tooth can serve for many years.
