VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) liposuction at Houston Lipo Center uses ultrasound energy delivered via a slotted titanium probe inserted into the tumescent-flooded fat compartment. The VASER probe emits ultrasound waves at a frequency that resonates specifically with fat cell membranes — causing them to rupture and release their lipid contents into the surrounding tumescent fluid — while largely sparing the non-adipose structures in the same tissue plane: blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, and connective tissue fibres. This tissue selectivity distinguishes VASER from standard mechanical liposuction, where the cannula exerts non-selective shear forces on whatever tissue is in its path. The result is a partially emulsified fat slurry that can be aspirated with less mechanical force and smaller cannulae than intact fat, which is particularly advantageous in anatomically dense or fibrous fat compartments. The back and flanks, the male chest (gynecomastia), and previously treated areas with fibrous scar tissue in the fat layer are areas where VASER's ability to emulsify before extraction offers a meaningful technical advantage over standard cannula-only liposuction. VASER is also used in high-definition liposuction protocols where precise fat layer sculpting is required to accentuate muscular anatomy. The ultrasonic energy component also provides a mild thermal stimulus to the subdermal tissue that may support some degree of skin retraction, similar to (though less pronounced than) SmartLipo laser heating.
