Shock Wave Therapy
Duration
20 min
Non-invasive acoustic shockwave treatment for tendinopathies, calcific deposits, and chronic musculoskeletal pain — integrated with physiotherapy for faster, more durable recovery outcomes.
HelloPhysio's Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) uses focused acoustic waves to stimulate the body's natural tissue regeneration processes, reduce pain, and improve blood circulation in affected musculoskeletal structures. The therapy is particularly effective for chronic tendinopathies that have not responded to conventional physiotherapy alone, including Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee), calcific shoulder tendinitis, and lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). During each session, conductive gel is applied to the treatment area and a handheld shockwave applicator delivers targeted acoustic pulses to the injured tissue. Sessions typically last 15–20 minutes, and a course of 3–6 sessions is recommended depending on condition severity and chronicity. ESWT at HelloPhysio is not offered in isolation — it is integrated within a broader physiotherapy plan that includes rehabilitation exercises, gait analysis and correction (where relevant), manual therapy, and soft tissue techniques. This multimodal approach addresses both the pathological tissue and the biomechanical factors contributing to injury, improving long-term outcomes over shockwave alone. The therapy is suitable for patients who have experienced persistent tendon or soft tissue pain for 3 months or more, and is a recognised alternative to corticosteroid injection or surgery for chronic tendinopathy. All ESWT treatments are administered by qualified AHPC-registered physiotherapists.
