About this treatment

How BTX may help migraine
The mechanism differs from its cosmetic muscle-relaxing action. In migraine therapy, botulinum toxin is thought to block the release of pain-associated neuropeptides (such as CGRP and substance P) from sensory nerve endings in the head and neck, dampening the peripheral sensitisation that feeds migraine attacks. Relaxation of chronically tense pericranial and neck muscles may additionally remove a common attack trigger.
