A resting electrocardiogram is one of the most fundamental cardiac screening tools, recording the electrical impulses that coordinate each heartbeat through a series of electrodes placed on the chest and limbs. The resulting trace reveals information about heart rhythm, conduction pathways, and chamber size that cannot be obtained from blood markers alone. The ECG can detect a range of conditions including atrial fibrillation (the most common sustained arrhythmia), heart block, ventricular hypertrophy, and patterns suggestive of previous myocardial damage. It takes only a few minutes to perform and is entirely non-invasive. When combined with the cardiovascular biomarkers in the Personal Health Check — cholesterol profile, blood pressure, and heart rate — the ECG adds a functional dimension that significantly strengthens the overall cardiac risk assessment. This add-on is only available at the Amsterdam IJburg flagship location, where the electrocardiograph equipment is installed. It is particularly relevant for individuals over 40, those with a family history of heart disease or sudden cardiac events, people who exercise intensively, and anyone experiencing palpitations, chest discomfort, or unexplained breathlessness.
