PDO Thread Lift

Absorbable PDO (polydioxanone) threads inserted under the skin to provide a subtle lift and to stimulate collagen along their path. Fine smooth threads improve skin quality and firmness, while barbed threads give a gentle repositioning effect on areas such as the cheeks, jawline and brows. The number and type of threads are planned to suit each face, and the threads dissolve naturally over months.

A thread lift uses absorbable polydioxanone (PDO) threads — the same material long used in surgical sutures — introduced beneath the skin through a fine needle or cannula. Two broad types are offered at HappyDERM. Smooth or screw threads (Darvin, PDO Screw) are placed in a mesh to bio-stimulate the skin, prompting fresh collagen along each thread so that texture and firmness improve gradually. Barbed threads (Nici Barb 4D) have tiny cogs along their length that grip the tissue, allowing the practitioner to gently reposition and support areas that have begun to descend, such as the cheeks, jawline, brows or neck. The area is numbed before treatment, which takes around thirty to forty-five minutes depending on how many threads are used. Barbed threads give an immediate, subtle lifting effect that is enhanced over the following weeks as collagen forms, while the threads themselves are absorbed by the body over roughly six to twelve months; the collagen they stimulate lasts longer. Expect some tenderness, mild swelling or small bruises for a few days, and to avoid wide mouth movements and facial massage briefly afterwards. Threads suit adults with mild to moderate skin laxity who want a refresh without surgery, and they are often combined with toxin, filler or skin-quality treatments.
