Laser hair removal at HappyDERM uses SHR (Super Hair Removal) technology, a form of selective photothermolysis in which the laser is swept repeatedly over the skin, gradually raising the temperature of the hair follicles rather than delivering a single high-energy pulse. This 'in-motion' heating disables the follicles' ability to regrow hair while being comfortable and well tolerated, and it works across a range of skin and hair types. Treatment can cover small facial areas such as the upper lip, between the brows and the chin, as well as larger body zones including the underarms, bikini line, chest, thighs and calves. The area is shaved beforehand and a gel applied; the handpiece is then moved over the skin with built-in cooling for comfort, taking from a few minutes for a small area up to longer for the legs. Hair grows in cycles and only follicles in their active phase respond fully, so a course of several sessions spaced a few weeks apart is needed to achieve a lasting reduction, followed by occasional top-ups. After each session treated hairs shed over one to two weeks. The skin may look slightly pink immediately afterwards, and sun protection of the treated area is advised.
