Fractional Laser Resurfacing (Er:YAG 2940nm)

Ablative fractional resurfacing with an Erbium:YAG 2940nm laser to renew the skin's surface and stimulate collagen, improving texture, fine lines, photoageing and scarring. The laser treats the skin in microscopic columns so it renews faster than fully ablative resurfacing. It can be focused on the whole face, neck, décolleté, eye area or specific acne and surgical scars, and works best as a planned treatment with proper aftercare.

Fractional resurfacing uses an Erbium:YAG laser at 2940nm — a wavelength strongly absorbed by water in the skin — to precisely remove the outermost damaged layers in a grid of microscopic columns while leaving bridges of intact skin between them. This fractional pattern triggers rapid renewal of the surface and a strong collagen-remodelling response in the deeper layers, smoothing texture, softening fine lines, improving photoageing and refining scars, while the untreated bridges speed recovery compared with older fully ablative resurfacing. HappyDERM uses this approach both for general revitalisation and photo-rejuvenation and, with an iPixel Er:YAG mode, for the targeted treatment of acne and post-surgical scars. The skin is cleansed and numbed before treatment, which takes around thirty to forty-five minutes for the face. Afterwards the skin feels warm and looks flushed, with mild swelling and a sandpaper-like texture for several days as it renews and lightly flakes; diligent moisturising and sun protection support healing. Because collagen remodelling is gradual, results continue to improve over the weeks and months that follow, and more pronounced photodamage or scarring may benefit from more than one treatment spaced several weeks apart. Strict daily SPF is essential during and after a course. The treatment is not suitable over active infection or for certain skin conditions and is avoided in pregnancy; the physician confirms suitability and the right settings for your skin type at consultation.
