Simple extractions involve loosening and removing a tooth that is fully erupted and accessible, performed under local anaesthetic. Surgical extractions are used for impacted teeth, broken-down roots, or teeth with complex root anatomy requiring sectioning and bone removal. Post-extraction care instructions and, where appropriate, options for tooth replacement (implant, bridge) are discussed at the appointment.

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. While every effort is made to save natural teeth, extraction is necessary when a tooth is too severely damaged or decayed to restore, when there is advanced bone loss from periodontitis, when teeth are impacted, or to relieve crowding as part of an orthodontic plan. **Types of extraction at GHC Praha:** *Simple extraction (1,550 Kč):* Used for fully erupted teeth with accessible roots. The tooth is loosened using an elevator and then removed with forceps. Under effective local anaesthesia, patients feel pressure but no pain. Healing is typically straightforward with appropriate aftercare. *Complex/surgical extraction (3,500 Kč):* Required for impacted wisdom teeth, teeth with curved or multiple roots, retained root fragments, or teeth with insufficient crown structure. May involve a small gum incision, removal of a small amount of surrounding bone, and sometimes sectioning the tooth into segments. Sutures are placed and dissolve within 7–14 days. **Post-extraction care:** Bite on a gauze pad for 30–60 minutes to assist clot formation. Avoid smoking, alcohol, hot drinks, and vigorous rinsing for 24 hours (protects the blood clot). Gentle saltwater rinses from day 2. Soft diet for 2–3 days. Normal paracetamol or ibuprofen for post-procedural discomfort. **Replacement planning:** After extraction, the gap should be addressed to prevent neighbouring teeth from drifting and opposing teeth from over-erupting. Options include a dental implant (gold standard), a fixed bridge, or a removable partial denture — the dentist will discuss these at the appointment.
