Permanent Hair Removal (IPL)

Permanent hair removal with IPL targets the pigment in the hair to gradually disable the follicle, reducing unwanted hair on the face, legs, bikini line, underarms and back. Because hair grows in cycles, several sessions are needed for lasting, smooth results. Permanent hair removal at GH Solutions uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to achieve a long-term reduction in unwanted hair. The light is absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair shaft and follicle, where it converts to heat and damages the follicle's ability to produce new hair. Crucially, the treatment only works on hairs that are in their active growth (anagen) phase at the time, and at any moment only a proportion of follicles are in that phase — which is why a course of sessions, spaced according to the body area's growth cycle, is needed to treat each follicle while it is vulnerable and achieve lasting smoothness. At GH Solutions the treatment is performed in the Blue House clinic at Spa Resort Sanssouci on areas including the face, legs, bikini line, underarms and back. Sessions range from around ten minutes for a small area to up to an hour for a large one. After cleansing and protective eyewear, a cool gel is applied and the IPL handpiece is passed over the area, delivering pulses that feel like a quick warm snap; many systems include cooling for comfort. Unlike shaving or waxing, IPL does not cause ingrown hairs, and between sessions the regrowing hair is typically finer and sparser. Mild redness afterwards settles within hours, and you should avoid sun exposure and use SPF on treated areas. IPL is most effective on darker hair and is not suitable for very dark or freshly tanned skin, as the light can target background pigment; this and other contraindications such as active infection, pregnancy, photosensitising medication and a tendency to keloid scarring are screened at consultation.
