Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose pulp has become irreversibly inflamed or infected — typically from deep decay or trauma — by removing the diseased tissue, disinfecting the canal system and sealing it hermetically. The alternative is extraction, so well-performed endodontics is the most conservative and usually most economical way to preserve natural dentition.
