Gables Plastic Surgery offers liposuction using a full complement of energy-assisted and standard techniques — SAL (suction-assisted liposuction), PAL (power-assisted liposuction), tumescent liposuction, UAL (ultrasound-assisted liposuction, such as VASER), and LAL (laser-assisted liposuction) — allowing Dr. de la Pedraja to select the most appropriate approach based on the treatment area, fat density, and desired degree of skin retraction. Tumescent technique, which infuses the target area with a dilute solution of lidocaine and epinephrine before fat removal, is a foundational safety measure used across all liposuction approaches to minimize bleeding, reduce discomfort, and facilitate fat removal. PAL uses a rapidly oscillating cannula tip to mechanically break up fat lobules before aspiration, reducing surgeon fatigue and enabling more efficient, uniform fat removal in fibrous areas. UAL uses ultrasonic energy to selectively emulsify fat before aspiration — the VASER system is a refinement that allows superior contouring in areas with denser or more fibrous fat, and is associated with improved skin retraction in appropriately selected patients. LAL uses laser energy similarly to liquefy fat while simultaneously heating the underside of the skin to stimulate collagen contraction and improve skin tightening. Treatable areas include the abdomen, flanks, love handles, back bra rolls, inner and outer thighs, knees, upper arms, and submental (chin) area. Compression garments are required during the healing process to minimize swelling and support the new contour. Final results are typically fully visible at three to six months as post-operative swelling resolves completely.
