Gables Plastic Surgery offers breast augmentation led by Dr. Jorge de la Pedraja, MD, whose subspecialty fellowship in aesthetic and breast surgery under Dr. Scott Spear — a nationally recognized breast reconstruction and augmentation pioneer — provides a distinctively high level of specialist training for a private practice setting. The practice offers implants from all three major FDA-approved manufacturers: Allergan (Natrelle silicone and saline), Mentor (Memory Gel and MemoryShape), and Sientra (Platinum-grade silicone). Silicone gel implants remain the most widely chosen option for their natural feel and broad size and shape selection; saline-filled implants are also available and offer the advantage of a slightly smaller incision during placement. Three incision approaches are available based on patient anatomy and preference: periareolar (along the lower border of the areola for minimized scar visibility), inframammary fold (in the natural crease beneath the breast, the most common approach for reliable placement), and transaxillary (from a small incision in the armpit, leaving the breast itself entirely scar-free). Implants may be placed either behind the breast glandular tissue (subglandular) or behind the pectoralis major muscle (subpectoral/submuscular) — the submuscular plane is associated with lower capsular contracture rates and superior upper pole coverage in thin patients. Dr. de la Pedraja conducts detailed pre-operative planning including implant sizing and 3D simulation where appropriate. All procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Recovery involves a compression bra for several weeks, restricted upper-body activity for four to six weeks, and a full return to exercise at six weeks, with final implant position settling at three to six months.
