Root canal (endodontic) treatment to save a tooth whose nerve has become inflamed or infected. The dentist removes the damaged pulp, cleans and shapes the canals inside the root and seals them, relieving pain and allowing the natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted. Pricing depends on how many canals the tooth has, with re-treatment of previously filled teeth and medicated dressings also offered. The tooth usually needs a permanent filling or crown afterwards.
