The comprehensive functional-medicine consultation is the entry point to the practice and is led by MUDr. Anna Palgutová, CFMP. Functional medicine treats the body as one connected system and asks why a problem is happening rather than only naming it, so the appointment is deliberately long — 90 to 120 minutes — to map your full health picture. Before you arrive you complete detailed intake questionnaires and keep a food diary; in the session these are reviewed alongside any blood or laboratory results you bring. Together you discuss symptoms, history, diet, sleep, stress and lifestyle, and the doctor builds an individual plan grounded in functional-medicine protocols. It is offered in person at the Brno-Chrlice practice or online, and is suited to people with chronic, hormonal, gut or unexplained complaints who want to understand the cause.
The comprehensive functional-medicine consultation is the foundation of care at Funkční medicína Brno and is delivered by MUDr. Anna Palgutová, CFMP, a functional-medicine physician and certified GAPS practitioner. Functional medicine is a systems-based approach: instead of treating each symptom in isolation, it looks at how diet, gut health, hormones, stress, sleep, environment and genetics interact to produce illness. The practice's guiding idea is that you should not simply tape over the warning light — you should find what is triggering it. Preparation begins before the appointment. You complete in-depth intake questionnaires covering your medical history, current symptoms, medications and supplements, and you keep a food diary so the doctor can see your real eating patterns. You are encouraged to bring any recent blood tests or laboratory results. The consultation itself runs 90 to 120 minutes, which is far longer than a standard medical appointment and allows a thorough, unhurried conversation. The doctor reviews your questionnaires and food diary, analyses your lab results, and discusses your full health status — physical symptoms, energy, digestion, sleep, mood and stress — to identify likely root causes and connections between seemingly separate problems. The session ends with the creation of an individual treatment plan that follows functional-medicine protocols. This typically combines dietary change, lifestyle adjustments, targeted supplementation and, where useful, advanced functional laboratory testing such as the DUTCH hormone panel, an Organic Acids Test, GI-Map stool analysis, Metabolomix+ or DNA testing — each available with a written interpretation as an add-on. The consultation can be booked in person at the Brno-Chrlice practice or online by video, making it accessible to patients elsewhere in the Czech Republic. It suits people with chronic or recurring complaints, hormonal and gut issues, fatigue, or unexplained symptoms who want to understand the underlying mechanism rather than manage it indefinitely. Functional medicine asks the patient to do the work of change; the doctor's role here is to investigate, explain and guide. Sessions are self-pay and are not covered by Czech public health insurance, and follow-up appointments are used to review progress and adjust the plan.
