Traditional tumescent liposuction involves injecting a saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine solution into the treatment area to expand the fat compartment, reduce bleeding, and provide anaesthesia, followed by mechanical disruption and aspiration of the fat through a cannula. VASER liposuction adds an ultrasonic probe step before cannula aspiration: the VASER probe emits ultrasonic energy that selectively emulsifies fat cells while preserving surrounding blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue from mechanical damage. The emulsified fat is then aspirated more smoothly than with traditional mechanical techniques, and the preserved connective tissue scaffold may support better skin retraction after fat removal — particularly relevant for body areas where skin quality and laxity are primary concerns alongside fat reduction. Common treatment areas at Fulcrum include the abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, upper arms, back rolls, and submental area (chin and neck). The procedure takes one to three hours under general or local anaesthesia with sedation depending on the volume and number of areas treated. Post-operatively, patients wear a compression garment for four to six weeks to support tissue healing and optimise skin retraction. Most patients return to light activity within one to two weeks and resume full exercise at four to six weeks.
