Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive cosmetic tattoo technique that deposits pigment into the scalp to replicate the appearance of trimmed hair follicles, creating the illusion of a fuller, denser head of hair.

About this treatment

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) at Freia Medical is a highly specialised, non-invasive treatment designed for individuals who wish to camouflage hair loss without undergoing surgery. Using a medical-grade micro-needle, practitioners deposit pigment into the upper dermis of the scalp to create the visual impression of individual hair follicle stubble — effectively mimicking the look of a closely cropped or shaved head with uniform density.

SMP is suitable for a wide range of hair loss presentations, including male and female pattern baldness at any stage, scarring alopecia, alopecia areata, or as a complement to hair transplant surgery to enhance density in areas between transplanted grafts. It is also a popular choice for patients who are not suitable candidates for surgical hair transplant due to insufficient donor supply.

The treatment is carried out over two to three sessions to build depth, shade, and natural-looking irregularity in the pigment placement. Each session lasts two to four hours depending on the area being treated. The pigment is matched carefully to the patient's natural hair colour and skin tone to achieve a realistic, undetectable result.
