Suitability and technique selection depend on the hair-loss pattern, donor availability, hair characteristics, age, expectations, and long-term planning. Preparation includes stopping blood-thinning medication two weeks before after consulting a GP, avoiding alcohol for two weeks, discontinuing vitamin E and herbal supplements for two weeks, stopping Minoxidil if applicable, avoiding smoking for one week, washing hair thoroughly the night before, eating a light breakfast, and arranging collection afterwards. FUT patients are advised to have a haircut one week before.
