Vascular Laser (Diode)

Type

Laser

Duration

30 min

Vascular laser treatment uses a diode laser to target visible broken capillaries and spider veins on the face and body. The light is absorbed by the blood in the vessel and heats it so it gradually closes and is reabsorbed, fading the redness. The studio prices it by the size of the area treated, and most concerns improve over a short series of sessions. It suits people troubled by facial redness, thread veins or small vascular spots.

Vascular laser treatment is designed to reduce the appearance of unwanted superficial blood vessels — the fine red or purple threads of broken capillaries and spider veins that commonly appear around the nose and cheeks or on the legs. The diode laser emits a wavelength of light that is preferentially absorbed by the haemoglobin inside the vessel; the resulting heat damages the vessel wall so that it is gradually closed off and cleared by the body, which is associated with a fading of the visible redness over the following weeks. At FemiCentrum the cosmetologist passes the laser over the marked vessels, with cooling to keep the skin comfortable; a session is usually short, scaled to how much area is being treated. Immediately afterwards the area may look slightly red or show faint marks along the treated vessels, settling over a few hours to days. Because vessels respond gradually and new ones can appear over time, a short series of sessions a few weeks apart often gives the best result, with occasional maintenance. The treatment is best suited to small, superficial vessels and diffuse facial redness rather than large bulging veins, which need different management. Sun protection before and after treatment is important, and the area should not be tanned. Suitability is assessed beforehand, and the treatment is avoided over infected skin and during pregnancy.
