IncontiLase — Laser Stress Urinary Incontinence Treatment

Type

Laser

Duration

30 min

IncontiLase at Eva Clinic uses the Fotona SP Dynamis laser to treat mild to moderate stress urinary incontinence — the involuntary urine leakage that occurs during coughing, sneezing, laughing, or physical exertion. The Fotona G-Runner applicator delivers Er:YAG laser energy to the anterior vaginal wall and urethrovesical junction, stimulating collagen contraction and regeneration in the pelvic support structures. As the tissue strengthens over the following months, urethral closure pressure improves and incontinence episodes diminish. The procedure is completely non-surgical, performed under no anaesthesia, and causes only mild temporary spotting as the sole side effect. Many patients report noticeable improvement within the first month.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) — defined as involuntary urine loss on effort, exertion, sneezing, or coughing — results from inadequate urethral support and reduced functional urethral length, most commonly caused by weakening of the pubovesical ligaments, endopelvic fascia, and pelvic floor musculature following childbirth, hormonal changes, or ageing. It affects an estimated 15–35% of women, with prevalence increasing markedly after menopause. Conventional management options for mild to moderate SUI include pelvic floor physiotherapy (effective but requiring sustained patient commitment), sling surgery (TVT/TOT — effective but invasive, with mesh-related risks), and injection of urethral bulking agents (variable and temporary). IncontiLase offers a non-surgical thermal laser approach validated in prospective clinical studies. The IncontiLase protocol uses the same Fotona SP Dynamis platform as Intimalase but applies laser energy specifically to the anterior vaginal wall at the level of the urethrovesical junction and bladder neck. The Er:YAG thermal stimulus creates controlled heating of the submucosal connective tissue, triggering collagen fibres to contract (immediate thermal contraction) and stimulating fibroblast-mediated synthesis of new collagen (delayed remodelling response). The net effect is thickening and stiffening of the anterior vaginal wall, restoring a portion of the urethral support that was lost. At Eva Clinic, the IncontiLase session is performed with the client positioned on the examination table; no anaesthesia or sedation is required. The G-Runner applicator is positioned to deliver the laser protocol to the anterior vaginal wall in a standardised automated sequence. The session takes 20–25 minutes. Post-treatment, clients may notice very mild spotting for 24–48 hours due to the mucosal stimulation — this is expected and resolves without intervention. Sexual activity and public pools are avoided for one week. Clinical studies (Ogrinc et al., 2015; Fistonic et al., 2016) report significant improvement in International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire (ICIQ) scores after 1–2 IncontiLase sessions, with effects persisting at 12-month follow-up. Many patients report immediate subjective improvement that becomes more pronounced at the 1–3 month assessment as collagen remodelling completes. This treatment is indicated for mild to moderate SUI (not severe or urge-dominant incontinence). It is an excellent option for postpartum women who are not ready for surgery, peri/post-menopausal women with hormonal SUI, and women who have had unsatisfactory results from conservative pelvic floor training.
