Fotona SmoothEye — Laser Eye Area Rejuvenation

Fotona SmoothEye is a non-ablative Er:YAG laser treatment specifically designed for the delicate periocular area — crow's feet, lower eyelid laxity, under-eye puffiness, and dark circle shadow. The SMOOTH mode Er:YAG handpiece delivers precisely controlled thermal energy in multiple rapid pulses, heating the dermis without surface ablation. This stimulates collagen remodelling and tissue contraction, progressively tightening the skin around the eye over a series of 3–4 sessions. Unlike surgical blepharoplasty, SmoothEye requires no anaesthesia, no incisions, and no downtime. The eye is protected with a specialised opaque contact lens shield throughout the treatment.

The periocular skin is the thinnest on the face — typically 0.3–0.5 mm dermis thickness — and the first to show signs of ageing: fine surface lines, orbital fat prolapse, skin laxity, and the hyperpigmentation that produces dark circle shadow. Standard ablative laser approaches that work well on the cheeks and forehead carry significantly higher risk around the eye due to the proximity to the orbital rim and the fragility of the eyelid skin. Fotona's SMOOTH mode Er:YAG technology was developed to address this challenge. By delivering controlled bursts of thermal energy at a wavelength (2940 nm) that is absorbed by water in the tissue, the system heats the dermis uniformly to a collagen-contracting temperature without reaching ablation threshold. The 'smoothing' effect on the tissue is thermal rather than ablative — the surface remains intact, while the dermal collagen is stimulated to remodel and contract over the following weeks. At Eva Clinic, the SmoothEye session begins with protective opaque contact lenses placed on the eyes by MUDr. Chovančíková — these are specifically designed for intraorbital laser protection and block all thermal and optical exposure to the cornea and iris. With the eyes protected, the Er:YAG handpiece is moved in overlapping passes across the lower and upper periocular region, delivering controlled pulses at a safe fluence calibrated for eyelid skin thickness. Clients typically describe the sensation as mild warmth, occasionally with brief stinging during the most rapid pulse sequences. The session takes 20–25 minutes of active treatment time within the 30-minute appointment. Post-treatment, the periocular skin appears mildly flushed for 1–2 hours; no dressings, cooling, or recovery products are required. Results develop incrementally: most clients notice some immediate tightening from thermal contraction, with continued improvement over 3–6 months as new collagen is deposited and remodelled.
