Unlike immediate-acting fillers, PLLA works progressively: microparticles injected under local anaesthesia stimulate fibroblasts directly, producing new collagen that persists long after the PLLA itself has fully biodegraded. The result is a natural, gradual lift and skin thickening that peaks at 2–3 months and can last up to 2 years. About this treatment
Polylactic acid (PLLA) represents the third generation of injectable biostimulators, and Estetika by Medfima has incorporated it into their treatment menu through two specialist products: Lenisma for broad facial application and Juvelook, a newer-generation PLLA specifically developed for the thin, sensitive periorbital skin that cannot safely receive many traditional fillers or biostimulators.
PLLA works through a foreign-body-response mechanism that is both predictable and clinically desirable. Once injected, the microparticles are encapsulated by the body's fibroblasts, which then proliferate and deposit type I and type III collagen fibres around the particles.
